Latest Guidelines For Schools Across Punjab: Timings Update

The Punjab School Education Department has officially banned the use of mobile phones by students in all public and private schools across the province. The decision comes as part of the government’s efforts to promote a healthier learning environment and reduce distractions among students.
Punjab Imposes Complete Ban on Mobile Phones in Schools
According to ARY News, the department issued a strict directive to all district education authorities, instructing them to immediately enforce the mobile phone ban. School heads have been told to ensure full compliance without any exceptions.
The official notification also encouraged school administrations to motivate students to take part in academic, sports, and co-curricular activities. The department stressed the importance of personality-building programs for students’ mental and social development.
This ban follows a resolution presented by MPA Raheela Khadim Hussain in the Punjab Assembly, which received majority approval and has now been formally implemented across the province.
Punjab Schools Timing Changes Due to Smog
Earlier, the provincial government also revised school opening timings due to the worsening smog situation in Lahore and surrounding areas. According to Director General Environment Imran Hamid Shaikh, no school, public or private, will be allowed to open before 8:45 AM.
Authorities warned that institutions violating the schedule would face a heavy penalty ranging from Rs. 500,000 to Rs. 1,000,000.
The changes were made keeping in view the alarming rise in pollution levels. Between October 19 and 30, Lahore’s Air Quality Index (AQI) jumped dangerously from 300 to 400, indicating a high concentration of hazardous particles in the air. The city recently became the second most polluted city in the world, recording an AQI of 346.
Meanwhile, New Delhi topped the global list with an AQI reading of 467.
Health experts have advised the public to wear masks, minimize outdoor exposure, and avoid unnecessary travel to protect themselves from respiratory problems.
Winter Vacations in Punjab – Official Schedule
The Punjab government has confirmed the schedule for winter vacations in all public and private schools across the province. According to the notification:
- Winter vacations will begin on December 23, 2025
- Schools will remain closed till January 11, 2026
- Classes will resume on January 13, 2026
There were circulating rumors regarding early school closures due to intense smog; however, authorities have clarified that no such decision has been finalized. Schools will follow the normal academic calendar unless further instructions are issued.
Conclusion
The Punjab government’s recent measures, including banning mobile phones in schools, adjusting school timings, and announcing the winter break schedule, are part of a broader effort to protect students’ health and improve their learning environment. These decisions aim to reduce distractions, ensure safety amid rising smog levels, and maintain a structured academic routine across the province. Parents and schools are advised to stay updated on official announcements to ensure full compliance with the new rules.
